LONDON PLANE ON BEECH

2024

MATTER R&D

A self-initiated research project using photometric scanning hardware built in-studio to capture the micro-surface relief of a London Plane leaf.

The scan data was processed and translated directly into CNC toolpaths — milled into both faces of a beech block to give the work genuine three-dimensional depth rather than surface relief alone. Finished with linseed oil.

The piece sits at the beginning of a longer thread of investigation into what it means to physically translate captured surface data
