SMALL OBJECT SCANNER
FACTUM FOUNDATION
Developed for Factum Foundation in 2018, the Small Object Scanner was Matt's first foray into automating photogrammetric capture — a problem that sits at the intersection of optical engineering, motion control, and data pipeline design.
High-resolution photogrammetry of small cultural heritage artefacts is technically demanding and error-prone when done manually. The scanner removes operator variables from the process: automating camera positioning, controlling lighting conditions, and standardising the capture geometry to produce consistent, high-detail 3D models.
This project is part of a longer thread. The questions it raised about precision capture, data integrity, and scan-to-fabrication workflows have run through almost everything that followed.
